4th of July Scrap Skirt

Need a quick 4th of July themed outfit for your baby or toddler, and don’t want to spend tons of money on one? You’re in luck! This 4th of July scrap skirt is sure to do the trick, and the materials don’t cost much at all. Pair it with any white shirt and you’re pretty much good to go!

This can also be used as a 4th of July party garland if you substitute the elastic for yarn, ribbon, or string.

Step 1:

You will need red, white, and blue fabric remnants. Be sure to use cotton (quilting) fabric so that it will be easy to tear. The size of the pieces will depend on the length you’d like the skirt to be.

Step 2:

Cut approximately one inch wide tabs along the edge of each remnant. Be sure your cuts are in line with the grain of the fabric.

Step 3:

Tear each tab along the grain of the fabric. It will tear evenly along the grain.

Step 4:

You will have three piles of fabric strips at this point. These will be tied in red, white, and blue order along your elastic.

Step 5:

Measure the length of elastic needed by placing it around the waist of the child you’re making it for. You can then sew the ends of the elastic together by hand or machine.

Step 6:

Double knot the strips around the elastic. Be sure that the knots are lined up along the bottom of the elastic.

Step 7:

Continue tying the strips around the full length of the elastic until the skirt is full.

Step 8:

Dress up your baby and make her super cute!
